This tasty and eclectic blend of Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Müller Thurgau, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling comes with a cute tale. As legend has it, a cellar worker at Oak Knoll Winery in Hillsboro, Ore., stumbled upon Penelope, the ghost of a Depression-era prize-winning heifer. The apparition went poof, but the winery quickly embraced it as a tribute/concept for its second label. Apple blossom, honeysuckle and ambrosia salad aromas include a hint of diesel. In the mouth, it takes akin to a fruit salad, but there’s enough piercing of Mandarin orange acidity to balance the residual sugar (2.5%) and make this a pleasant porch pounder.
